This is the view from our hotel window. It took us a long time to find our hotel and we both had organisational things to do when we arrived so we're too tired to venture out for anything but a meal. We did try to have a walk after dinner but there were not a lot of people about and a few we passed looked quite unsavoury, so we decided it was too risky to venture any further.
The only impressive things about our meal were the dessert (the mushroom pasta dish was dreadful) and the waiter.
Today we travelled to Stresa by train. As we boarded the train? We heard a voice "Robyn!" Can you believe it was a girl we knew as children and who is one of Rob's walking group - Jackie Collins/Price.
Stresa is beautiful. Reminded me a little of Geneva. In my dream life, I will have a week or two here. I will stay at the Grand Hotel des Iles Borromees, in a room with a view of the lake. I will take leisurely trips to the islands and eat at luxurious restaurants. (Rob just told me that my dream hotel room will cost me €450 per night, but that includes breakfasts).
We caught a little ferry to two islands. The first was Pescatori where we ate a delicious lunch - Rob said it was the best lasagne she had ever tasted and my ricotta and spinach tortilini was yummy. There were lots of little shops tucked into rocks here, a little like Cinque Terre.
The second island was Bella, where the main attraction is the Palace, formerly owned by the Borromeo family. It and its gardens were very grand.

We had some spare time while waiting for our running-late ferry so we had to have gelato - 90% cacao, sugar free of course.
