Villa Adriana, Monterosso, Cinque Terre

When we arrived at Monterosso station, the first thing we noticed was the view from the platform, in the possible direction of our accommodation.

Must we climb this hill?
When we were leaving the station this morning we noticed the view on the other side.

Why didn't we see that view first?
Monterosso and the other villages are hidden behind and under great mountains / cliffs. We discovered the whole Monterosso village along the seaside, and the  Villa Adriana was not up the mountain.
We are staying in a former monastery but I can't find it's history. It is set back 450 metres from the beach and away from most of the crowds. The garden is a picture.

And we didn't steal any strawberries or oranges! The meals here have been outstanding. As well as good quality muesli, there were chia seeds, puffed quinoa, amaranth and flaxseeds, as well as a cooked breakfast. Dinners both nights have included a great range of tasty vegetables.
Today we set off by ferry from our hamlet to visit three other hamlets, This is an incredible place. The 5 hamlets were established in medieval times. Rob and I can't fathom how they managed to build on and in the rocks without today's technology.  Here is a sample of photos I took today.

We tried to climb up to the top of a watchtower that Keisuke alerted us to, but we just did not have the stamina to go all the way. They were steep stairs and we couldn't rest as there were so many people on their way up. Luckily there was a restaurant just below our exhaustion point. The waitress felt sorry for us and gave a spot under a red umbrella and with a view, and we only had a lemon sorbet.

Here are the red umbrellas from the ground level. The tower is above the umbrellas.
