Once my recorder teacher, Ursula was a very special person.
I was so shocked when I heard about 6 months ago that she had a very terminal cancer. I still find it hard to believe that she has died.
When in 2006, I asked my work colleagues for suggestions for a recorder teacher, Ursula's name was given to me. I was also told that Ursula took her music very seriously and was very outspoken. I phoned one night and spoke to her husband, Jurgen. He suggested I ring one night after 11. It's hard to catch her, he said. I didn't phone back - someone that busy would not have time for me.
In 2001, after retiring from work I contacted her and began recorder lessons. I loved those hours and I learned so much. I recorded my lessons which gave me enough to work on for a month.
Ursula had strong views on all the things I hold dear, so we became friends.
While I was in Brisbane with my family, her extraordinary funeral was held in Albury. I read the detailed account and saw some photos, including her beautiful hand painted whale coffin at this link
Every time I think about her, a tear or two run down my face.
That's very touching. Thanks for sharing Wyverne!
