Vogalonga and Ghetto

I viewed the boats from the ferry jetty nearby rather than try to go to the crowded viewpoints and luckily I had the spot to myself. The ferries were all stopped while the thousands of boats of all sorts did the course. It is actually a protest against motor boats. Here is Rob's boat passing my spot. They were expecting me to be there so they pulled  up for the photo.

Close up - Rob is in front on the left. They had the same gorgeous sweep - Robby. He was so patient with the elderly members of the team, helping to almost "lift" some up out of the boat. Don't let that kid you that the team was not a well trained one though.

After Rob had a bit to eat and a bit of a rest - they rowed about 40kms on a very hot day - we walked to the Ghetto.
First up was a much needed coffee and then the museum. We were body scanned and our belongings X-rayed just like the airport. There were two parts of the museum - artifacts and history. The Jewish history in Venice is very interesting.
Lastly we went to the Banco Rosso, a former pawn shop which is a sort of museum. It is set up as it was originally, with some of the unclaimed pawned objects. They showed a little documentary film that explained the social history of the Venetian Jews. I learned that the saying "in the red" came from the red pawn receipt given from this pawn shop.
