Vienna Again

We came by train this morning to Vienna. We found our apartment  (first floor windows) near the main station, Wien Hauptbahnhof.

We then set out on our usual reconnaissance of the area. That's what we do when we arrive in a place. We found the tram stop we need for tomorrow. We cleverly bought 24 hour transport tickets on a ticket machine. We found out about, and booked, our airport train tickets, just €1.70 each supplementary to the 24 Hr ticket.

Tomorrow we plan to take the D tram and head for the hills. We spotted this area while on the Hop on bus earlier, so we know the village we want to explore, Grinzing Village in the Vienna Woods.
We have just about worked things out now, and we are off home tomorrow evening. Oh well.....

On our way "home" from the reconnaissance walk, we chose a restaurant and had a long dinner over a glass of red. It was a big glass and we had to sit there until we were fit to walk home. It is a lovely warm evening and we ate outside at the Kaiser Restaurant. We chatted about the many places and events of our trip. We pondered why people always guessed we are Australian - accent? No, sometimes they knew before we opened our mouths. Daggy clothes? Highly likely - our kids might think so. Probably the daggy hats! Keisuke and Toshiko, do you know that word "daggy"? Is that what marks an Australian?
We talked about the very very tall Czech men. We talked about the often overweight Austrian people - they are very fond of giant desserts. Well, there is so much to talk about. How can a country border make such a difference in culture, architecture, food, etc.?
Our last night so no more Europe blogs. It's been a great trip and we are so lucky that we sisters get along so well. We both agree that we are great travel companions. We want to do the same things, we get tired about the same time, we often order the same things to eat and very often share the same plate. At the same time we can reminisce about our childhood. We both know we are very fortunate.
