Today is a day of rest for us. Our hostess, Eirlys Jones, drove us to
Ruthin today. As for all of these villages. Ruthin is steeped in history, which you can read at the link. We had a look at the ruins of the first castle, built by Edward 1 about 1277. The story is rather complicated and we learned from Eirlys how bitter the Welsh people still are about the the part the English played in Welsh history. We also felt that at the eisteddfod when the English anthem was played at the beginning of one of the concerts. People refused to sit down, waiting for the Welsh anthem. It didn't happen and people around us were angry. Later during the concert, the compere announced that "Land of our Fathers" would be sung at the end of the concert.

This is the castle gate and the next 2 photos are of the ruins of the original building.
We had our lunch at the Craft Centre and then wandered around the village until Eirlys was ready to take us home. The weather has been perfect today, but torrential rain and hailstorms are forecast for tomorrow. maybe we will use our rain gear yet!
This last photo shows Robyn going down the steps in a Welsh Gift shop which was built in the 15th century.
