Garth Newydd 6th July: River Walk, st Peter's Church , Winery, Dilys' House

We seem to have so much today, I'm having trouble remembering the beginning. Ym...

Zoom in - "Can you see the baby ducks swimming in the water?" - about a dozen of them following their mother.

Ah yes, we went for a walk along the River Teifu (I think - Lampeter is at the junction of Teifu and Dulas rivers).

Almost back into town.

When we got back to town, Sue wanted to visit her family grave, so Emma and I went with her.

Paupers' Graves - only initials and number on these.

St Peter's Church, built in the1860's.

On our way home.

And there's more. A winery visit  was next. This was a large family winery, with many varieties of grapes I accidentally deleted the photos of the vines, but here is the very grand homestead.

And then, on our way to Dilys's home. I went there with the Gardening weekend, but this was to be a barbecue. Now I have to say Dilys (PhD!) is very unique, eccentric maybe. She is very assertive and I'm a bit scared of her. Well she's very kind and welcoming, but I never know what is going to happen next. She was very excited about her new big barbecue. Our 'boys" had to carry it out of the shed and put in a suitable spot and then Marcus and helpers started to sort out the food in Dilys's kitchen. Then Dilys ushered us into her lounge room where she had a selection of books. I picked up an old eisteddfod program. There was a Dylan Thomas book and various other books. Then Dilys began asking one of our group questions about their book. It was all in Welsh of course, and I began to feel quite nervous, so I retreated to the kitchen, where Emma was preparing a salad. I really hid! A bit later, salad all done, I crept back into the lounge room, where the discussion went on. Dilys looked up at me and asked me where I lived. "Dw i'n byw yn Australia" - she was shocked, having forgotten that she had met me a week ago. She asked me if I liked Dylan Thomas' poems. Well, I said, in Welsh of course, "My husband loves his poems." Temporary relief! Then she brought out a book of paintings about Dylan Thomas' poems by Ceri Richards. "Do you know these?", she asked me. And wait for it, I remembered seeing an exhibition of Dylan Thomas stuff at the National Library of Wales last week with Kaye. Oh yes, I said, I saw them in Aberystwyth last week. She was suitably impressed. You would have been too if you heard my replies in Welsh - well, my style Welsh.

Then we had lunch, I thought we were going home, but no, we went to the Secret Garden again (for me) but it is so lovely, I didn't mind a bit.

Marcus hugs a tree.

A carved wooden dragon.

Children's Playground

And finally, at home, I gave a little recorder concert.
