Some of the dishes were given to me - kombu (seaweed) and warabi (local mountain wild vegetable), cooked by a couple of elderly women. I cooked the burdock and the kabocha
(a type of pumpkin). I also cooked a variety of mushrooms, unknown green leafy veg and tofu in a sort of soup.
I like the idea of having lots of prepared dishes in the fridge, so I can choose which ones for each meal.
This morning I caught the little community bus up a very narrow road to Toshiko’s.
I took a photo of the trees at their house, beautiful spring colours, so I can compare with later in my stay.
I watched Toshiko grind their home grown wheat for the bread making, preparation for their weekly bakery.
Now, this is for Tim, Johann and Jooke. Next time you bring us wood would you please stack it like Kiyoshi does.
