Clever Lady

Another busy day. The weather is better, but in exchange for the rain, we got cold weather.
Went to choir and recorder again and then visited one of the choristers. This lady is a bit like my Mum was- a very creative crafter. The house was like an art gallery, with quilted hangings, stuffed toys, crafted wall hangings etc, and finally a room full of doll replicas of many aspects of local traditional farming, including women’s chores and a wedding. I’m putting several photos up, so those who are interested can blow them up and see the amazing intricate work. She doesn’t sell her art, but I hope it’s in a gallery one day.
Toshiko and I enjoyed a cup of tea and lots of laughter.

Tomorrow Toshiko and I are visiting Junko and then the very skilled local music teacher (piano, recorder) and she has a beautiful voice. Yoko’s family fled Tokyo after the tsunami, fearing the aftermath of the flooding of the nuclear plant. Yoko’s family originally came from Nagasaki so had their own terrible family. history.
Toshiko teaches Yoko and the children English  in exchange for her recorder lesson. I am in for a treat - Yoko is going to accompany my recorder sonatas and I am going to try (help!) to accompany her singing on the piano.
Oh I should tell you that there were two men at today’s music activities, one an elderly retired teacher and the other, the middle aged local doctor who is quite a musician as well as being a qualified surgeon. He is full of life, laughs and talks with gusto. Toshiko says he treats his patients the same way.
It’s quite surprising, the people who pop out of the forest here.
