Food from the Forest

I caught the bus up to Toshiko’s this morning. I walked the last part and as I neared the house, I could hear talking. Then I spotted this pair, squatting in the garden.

Haruko, aged 93 stopped tending her tea bushes and Toshiko her weeding, to have a little chat.
I did a bit of weeding too and then we collected some shiitake from the forest.

After that, we had lunch which included some of these shiitake as well as a salad ingredient that was new for me. The “debris” from making soy milk was mixed up with onion, carrot and mayonnaise. I was dubious, but it was nice. At home, I throw mine out, but maybe not anymore.
