A word of explanation. In 2002, the mayor of Nakatsue successfully arranged for the Cameroon soccer team to practise at the large local sports centre. Ever since then, Nakatsue, especially Sakamoto San have a special relationship with Cameroon. Tomorrow is Cameroon’s National Day. The Cameroon ambassador, who abides in Tokyo, decided to have their celebration here in Nakatsue.
We women worked hard with the local chef/ cooking teacher, to prepare most of the food for the distinguished guests and any of the village people who wanted to come.
Some of the food preparation people.
This new building housed the ceremony.
The ambassador’s speech.
With the ambassador’s wife.
The local school choir sang.
Some traditional Japanese songs.
It was lovely to see the ambassador leading dear Sakamoto San, arm in arm, around the building.
And now it’s my turn to be arm in arm with Sakamoto San. I first met him in 2004.
I can imagine a Japanese film maker turning this into a film. Like one of their gentle observational comedies. Small town, Cameroon, a local family or two etc.
