Hop on Hop Off in Rome.

We hoped to start the day with the Colosseum and Roman Forum but although we purchased "skip the queue" tickets we soon found out that there is no such thing as "skip the queue". We looked at the Colosseum from the outside. 


Next should have been the Vatican but as it is Sunday, much of that was not open. Instead, we accidentally came across Chiesa Di San Marcello al Corso Roma. It was beautiful - art work and decoration were superb. What a treat!
 
The Piazza Di Spagna was next - not exceptionally spectacular. 

Now I hesitate to say that we had lunch at Macca's. Actually we needed a clean toilet and a bottle of water that was less than €10!  However we noticed that the salad lunches were too good and too cheap to ignore.
 
We are getting pretty smart at using machines to get tickets and order food, you should know. But we still are not too smart at getting rid of nuisance hawkers. One hit me with one of the hats he was flogging, because I wouldn't buy one.
Fontana  Di Trevi  was spectacular. Keith had told me that this fountain was filmed in the movie 'Three Coins in a Fountain".


We saw a lot on foot as we tried to find the bus stop to get back on the "Hop on/off" bus. The clothes in the shop windows caught our eyes, especially some exquisite baby clothes - design, the smocking, the pastel colours and the materials really something. From the bus we were impressed with the number and magnitude of the ancient buildings and sculptures.
Enough for one day for two old ladies, so we are now drinking tea, resting until sherry time. Life is hard.
