The Great Ocean Road

Here we are on the Great Ocean Road. If you would like to know exactly where we went on our holiday you can see at this web page .

It was nearly dark when we reached the "Twelve Apostles" on the Great Ocean Road. Noellene (my cousin) and I are photographed to prove we went there.

While in Lorne, we met some Jarratt (my maiden name) relatives and found some important graves. Here you see the grave of Fanny Jarratt, my great grandmother (my father's paternal grandmother). She died in 1936. It was a thrill to see this and to meet more of the relatives of my father, who never really talked about his family much.
We searched in vain for our great grandfather's grave at Cobden. He died in 1912.

My father's father was one of 14 children and some of them stayed in or around Lorne, whereas my grandfather went to seek his fortune in mining in the far north of Western Australia. Below is a photo of the old Lorne school house (known as the Doll's House) where Fanny Jarratt stayed with my Great Uncle Pat's family and another family during the 1930's depression. Pat's brother-in-law was the school teacher.

Now just to show how very important the Jarratt family was (is?), here is Jarratt Lane!
We stayed in another bush cabin at Pennyroyal, west of Lorne. Noellene loved our very own birds.

Here is Keith (and then me) with my father's cousin Geoffrey Jarratt. Geoff at 91 years of age is very special. He sends emails, uploads photos and buys lots of things on E-Bay. Besides being an outstandingly technical Nonagenarian, Geoff is positive and happy and is a darling.

Finally, here is a photo of seven of Fanny and George Jarratt's great grandchildren. Together with the husbands, we went out to dinner at the Grand Pacific Hotel. Noellene and I are on the edges - we are granddaughters of Walter, and the others are all granddaughters of Albert. Left to right they are Debbie, Louise, Ruth, Wendy and Alison.

We had a wonderful time and were made so welcome by our second cousins. Thank you all so much.
